Registration and Billing

The Higher Education Office handles all registration each semester for members of the cohort. Since cohort sections of courses are "closed," i.e., limited to students in the cohort, they are not published in GW’s course catalog and students cannot register themselves.

If a student’s account has a hold on it, either due to nonpayment of previous tuition charges or library fines, he/she cannot be registered. The Higher Education Office will notify students of the hold, and it is the student’s responsibility to clear his/her account and contact the Higher Education Office that the hold has been lifted for registration. Late fees and penalties will accrue on accounts that are not paid in a timely fashion, and late registration fees are charged if the student cannot be registered on time.

For billing purposes, the cohort classes are not charged on a per credit hour basis, but a per semester basis. The total cost of the program is divided into nine (9) semesters – three semesters the first year (fall, spring & summer); three the second year; and three (fall & spring & fall) the third year. Thus, the billing amount remains the same for the first 6 semesters. The last three semesters when students take three (3) credits of EDUC 390, and two semesters of six (6) credits of EDUC 391 – Dissertation Research, the amount billed per semester will vary based on the number of credit hours at a cohort rate. The cost of the program is locked in at the beginning of each cohort, and there will be no increases.
