GW TO ANNOUNCE THE ARRIVAL OF NEW GW DATA CENTER AT THE VIRGINIA CAMPUS WITH GRAND OPENING AND RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY APRIL 20

GW Becomes One of the Few Higher Education Institutions on the East Coast
with Redundant Data Centers

WHAT: The George Washington University will host a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for GW’s Data Center at the Virginia Campus. The new data center features state-of-the-art hardware and a network operations center to monitor all systems and services on both the Foggy Bottom and Virginia campuses. It also provides fault-tolerant connections between the University’s Foggy Bottom Data Center to ensure continuity of operations in the event of failure at either location.

Ashburn, VA 20147 (at University Center, Route 7, one mile west of Route 28)

COST: This event is free, but only open to members of the media and invited guests.

BACKGROUND: The new data center is now the base for ongoing “production” operations for most major GW systems, with backup and development systems operating at the University’s Foggy Bottom Data Center in Washington, D.C. GW’s Data Center, located at the University’s Virginia Campus, also will offer storage capabilities for other universities and research facilities in the area. The new facility makes the University one of the few higher education institutions on the East Coast with redundant data centers.
