Hi-Tech IPO Start-Up Course Offered Fall 2004 at
The George Washington Virginia Campus

ASHBURN, VA—A special topics course, “From Lab to IPO: A Hi-Tech Start-Up,” is being offered this fall at The George Washington University Virginia Campus. Intended for entrepreneurs and strategic thinkers, especially those in engineering and technology, the course covers practical and legal issues in taking a great idea and turning it into a successful hi-tech or biotech company.

Course topics are: venture/angel capital; patents, copyrights, and trademarks; trade secrets and licensing agreements; partnerships, corporations, and LLCs; the IPO process; federal and state securities law; and government programs for start-ups. This course is offered as open enrollment and is available to anyone, including those not currently enrolled at the university.

The instructor, Tony Stanco, Esq., is the founding Director of the Washington-based Center of Open Source & Government. He works on software policy, Open Source, cyber-security and eGovernment with universities and governments around the world. An associate director of the Cyber Security Policy and Research Institute of The George Washington University, he is also an adjunct professor at GW.

The George Washington University Virginia Campus in Loudoun County, just 12 miles from Tysons Corner, is the region’s fastest-growing research and technology campus. The campus has academic and research initiatives in transportation safety and security, public health and homeland security, professional and executive education, and information technology and telecommunications. The 12-year old, 90-acre campus is located in Ashburn, Virginia, in the technology and business corridor near Dulles International Airport.
