Symposium to Allow Research and Industry Users to Share Knowledge About Current Applications and Future Directions of Pervasive Technologies

EVENT: “From Research to Reality,” a Symposium on Pervasive Computing in the Smart Home at The George Washington University Virginia Campus. Researchers, product developers and implementers will discuss pervasive and ubiquitous technologies during the symposium hosted by GW’s Home of the 21st Century Research Lab and GW’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and co-sponsored by the Northern Virginia Technology Council. • Sanjay Sarma, associate professor of mechanical engineering at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and co-founder of The Auto-ID Center
• Gregory Abowd, associate professor in the College of Computing at The Georgia Institute of Technology and director of the Aware Home Research Initiative
• Daniel Weitzner, technology and society domain leader of the World Wide Web Consortium
  
  Additional panelists include industry and research experts from America Online, Inc. (AOL), SUN Microsystems, Verify Systems, Ubisense, NEXTEL, AetherWire, CiTechnologies, IBM RFID Global Center, The Broadband Group, Technology-Assisted Child Safety Initiative, SafeTzone Technologies Corporation, MAXIMUS, KidLocate and the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC).

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the GW Symposium on Pervasive Computing in the Smart Home is to allow researchers, product developers and implementers to share knowledge about current applications and future directions for pervasive technologies. Bhagirath Narahari, GW professor of engineering and applied science, is the symposium chair. The symposium is co-sponsored by the NVTC, AOL, KidLocate and GW.
